Nestled in the vibrant heart of Williamsburg at 152 Metropolitan Avenue, Skinny Dennis stands as a captivating oasis for those seeking an authentic and spirited bar experience. This is no ordinary watering hole—it’s a dive bar infused with a distinct underground edge and a welcoming country flair that offers a refreshingly intimate escape from the city’s bustle.
Step inside and you’ll immediately feel the alluring embrace of its intriguingly dark, southwestern-inspired interior, where the mood is both cozy and mysterious. The lighting is low, setting the stage for unforgettable nights filled with lively country music and an atmosphere that invites you to let loose—whether you’re dancing with friends or simply savoring the rhythms and vibes that permeate the air.
The drink menu at Skinny Dennis is as thoughtfully curated as its ambiance. Highlights include the evocative Willie’s Frozen Coffee, a signature frozen cocktail that balances rich coffee notes with a cool, smooth texture, perfect for daytime sipping or a spirited pick-me-up. Equally captivating is the Bourbon Mint Sweet Tea, which melds warmth and refreshment in each smartly crafted sip. For those with a penchant for classics, options like the One Pound Margarita, Guinness, and the playful Pickleback create a dynamic lineup that satisfies a range of palates.
Budget-friendly beverage selections from “In The Can” and “In The Botte” categories, such as Budweiser, Tecate, and Shiner Bock, make Skinny Dennis an accessible spot without sacrificing quality. Add to that the thoughtful little touches—a generous bowl of complimentary peanuts at the bar and a surprisingly delicious PB&J—complement your drinks perfectly, fostering an inviting and unpretentious environment.
Customers consistently praise the genuine energy and the strong community feel palpable here. Colleen Clennon paints Skinny Dennis as a place filled with vibrant live music, “reasonably priced drinks and food energy all around,” and a “great spot to enjoy some day drinks and music.” Nicolas Rosselot captures the bar’s almost secretive allure, calling it a “quintessential underground bar” with a captivating atmosphere that sets it apart. Dale Thompson affectionately labels it “the country bar in Brooklyn,” celebrating its relaxed daytime vibe and festive nights where music and camaraderie thrive.
The bartenders here come highly recommended too. Jeff Gerecke’s experience highlights the bar’s dedication to excellent country music and friendly staff, making it a go-to hangout where fun flows easily. Whether you’re craving a robust Jack Daniels on the rocks or the uniquely inventive “Ode to Mr Peanut,” Skinny Dennis delivers an experience that lingers long after the final call.
Whether you’re seeking a lively night out filled with dancing and live tunes or a chill afternoon indulging in creative cocktails and free peanuts, Skinny Dennis invites you in with open arms. It’s a rare gem in Brooklyn that blends warmth, music, and a carefully crafted drink list into one unforgettable package. My recent visit to Skinny Dennis, located at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Berry Street, was a memorable experience, capturing the essence of a quintessential underground bar. The ambiance of Skinny Dennis is intriguingly dark, creating an intimate and somewhat secretive atmosphere that sets it apart from your average bar. This shadowy setting contributes to its unique charm, making it a great spot for those who appreciate a more subdued and private environment for their evening outings. One of the convenient features of this bar is the availability of an ATM on-site. It's a thoughtful touch that adds to the ease of the experience, especially in a cash-preferred setting. The service at Skinny Dennis was notably good. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that our needs were met promptly and with a smile. Their professionalism and warmth greatly enhanced our overall experience. Skinny Dennis strikes a balance between being a quiet spot to unwind and having a slightly messy, lived-in feel that adds character. This combination gives the bar a unique identity – it's neither too polished nor too rough around the edges, which I found particularly appealing. In conclusion, Skinny Dennis is a fantastic choice for those looking for a good underground bar with a dark, cozy ambiance and excellent service. It's a place that seems to capture the spirit of a hidden gem in the heart of the city.
Well this is a Williamsburg area surprise. I'll call it the country bar in Brooklyn. A great relaxed vibe during the day and a festive vibe at night often with live music. Great spot to hang and recalibrate that city intensity and grab a beer and warm peanuts. Pricing was average and service was great. Inside and outside seating available with a fun southwestern interior. Get on over there and give em a yeehaw.
This is not a restaurant. It's a great dive bar where they play excellent country music. Always people dancing. Great bartenders. Highly recommend

This is one of my favorite Bar in Brooklyn / Williamsburg. I love to get there on Saturday afternoon, they have always a nice live session. Although you are not in Texas or Nashville, you can have a nice Honky Tonk in New York City. Good beers, friendly staff, nice vibes, good Music!
Always a great time here. The prices are reasonable, the live music adds a fun vibe, and the frozen coffee is a staple that never disappoints. Mixed crowd of all ages. Definitely a go-to spot.
